This lovely little French Bistro is located in Historic Parkville, Missouri.  It is only a 30 minute drive from post.  It is located at 112 1/2 Main Street.  Their phone number is 816-587-6767.

They have a lunch and dinner menu available. They are closed on Mondays.  They also have a website, where you can look at their menu selections.  I highly suggest reservations for dinners on the weekend.

Everything we have tried here has been fantastic!  The flat iron steak is delightful.  I do have photos of the food and I will get them posted right away.  Lunch entrees will run $10 to $15.  The dinner entrees will run $25 to $35 depending on what you order. Their wine selection is very nice as well. I am a big fan of their  Crème brulée!

I found this restaurant when my friend had a reception there.  It is a quaint little restaurant in the heart of downtown Leavenworth.  They have a nice variety of food and they make their own home made doughnuts.  They also have Gluten Free items.  Everything GF that I have tried is great.  My favorite is their Brunch.  

Bassa Prua does their all you can eat brunch a little different. What they do is tell you what they have available. Then they will bring you out a plate with a little of everything there is. After that you can choose what you want more of.   You will also get a little basket of doughnuts and some fresh fruit. 

Affare Restaurant

I stumbled on this restaurant quite by accident while taking a painting class offered by Colors and Bottles. Affare Restaurant is located at 1911 Main Street, Kansas City, MO 64108. Their phone number is (816)298-6182.  "Affare serves modern German dishes created from fresh, seasonal, and local products. Come in and create your own course-menu or enjoy a delicious cocktail at our bar."

They utilize the farm to table freshness and you can certainly taste it.  I recommend reservations for weekends.  There are two menu's to choose from. If you are sitting in the lounge area then you have a menu with smaller fare you can choose from ranging from Affare Bacon and Fried Brie Cheese! Parking is available in the Felco Printing Parking Lot located 1/2 block east of Main Street between 19th and 20th Street.  This seems to be a rather dodgy part of town so I don't recommend going alone. We haven't had any problems with our vehicle being broken into. But we don't leave anything in plane sight. I am just saying be aware of your surrounding.  It is worth the drive, about 45 minutes from post, for a nice dinner.

Luigi's Italian Restaurant

We found a great little Italian Restaurant in Leavenworth, Kansas. It is Luigi's Italian Restaurant located at 700 Cherokee Street, Leavenworth, KS 66048. Their phone number is (913)651-9009.  They do not deliver but you can call ahead for take out.

They are reasonably priced dinners. Most of them are under $15.00.  Adjacent to them they have recently opened a little coffee shop where you can go enjoy a cup of coffee and a dessert if you wish.

I think the thing I like most is the customer service. It is family owned and run. They are all very nice. I hope you can check it out some time. For those that need gluten-free; the only thing I found gluten sensitive would be the lamb.

Fort Leavenworth Historic Commissary

These are pictures of our old commissary from back in 1875. The building is really pretty. I can just imagine pushing little carts in and out of that entrance. 

Living in the Infantry Barracks

We were originally slated for another house but when that fell through we were offered the Infantry Barracks. One thing I noticed was there was not a lot of photos of the Infantry Barracks anywhere! So, I decided to fix that and take pictures of our floor plan.

Fort Leavenworth Commissary Update

The commissary at Fort Leavenworth is located at 310 Kansas Avenue Building #691.
Its hours of operation are Monday through Saturday from 0900-1900 and Sunday from 1100-1600.
Early bird hours are offered from 0700-0900 every day but Sunday. The commissary is very busy right around 5pm.  Later than that and it is fine.
